Nestled in the heart of Porus, Manchester, Porus Infant School stands as a beacon of educational excellence with a rich heritage spanning over 150 years. Founded in 1865 by the Anglican Church and later sponsored by the Baptists, our school continues to honor its founding principles while embracing modern educational practices. Still affectionately known as the Baptist School by the local community, we proudly serve 160 students with a dedicated team of twenty passionate educators.
As a co-educational infant school under the Ministry of Education, we operate with the oversight of the Early Childhood Commission, ensuring our curriculum meets the highest national standards. Our commitment to holistic development extends beyond academics through vibrant co-curricular activities, including participation in Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC) events, community service projects, and various national initiatives that connect our students to their heritage and community.
Porus Infant School is blessed with strong partnerships that enhance our educational mission. We receive invaluable support from local and international organizations including Friends of Porus, the Porus Past Students' Association, and the Constance Louise Monroe Foundation. These partnerships enable us to provide enriching experiences and resources that benefit every child in our care.
Our track record speaks volumes about our commitment to excellence. Our students consistently demonstrate strong academic performance that continues through their educational journey to the university level. At Porus Infant School, we don't just educate children – we nurture future leaders, thinkers, and citizens who will make meaningful contributions to Jamaica and beyond. Truly, Porus Infant is the home of excellence!
